We are therefore, not surprise when Kashmir is found to have become famous as the abode of Saraswati, the Indian Muse.
Even in the valley itself we are reminded of Bilhana's pithy description of his home land, the land of Sarada. In the Tantraloka Viveka, Kashmir is said to be the seat of the goddess of learning. Prof. Navjivan Rastogi says that the plan and design of the city of Srinagar has been patterned on that of the Sricakra. By implications Srinagar is an abbreviation of the original Srividyanagar.
